Having unsuccessfully defended to Taylor Marshall and Fr. Erlenbush my stance in favor of Tertullian's orthodoxy regarding the
perpetual virginity, I feel an ounce of vindication insofar as that posture has been described by no less than
His Hermeneuticalness as 'never condemned' and therefore 'not heretical'. Therefore Fr. Finegan sits upon the fence. No less than
William Oddie stands with the Holy Father in his appointment of Cardinal Muller to the CDF prefecture. At the very least, it could be argued that acceptance of Tertullian's argument about
virginity in partu does not necessarily render one
latae sententiae excommunicado if it hasn't deterred so foremost a scholar as the Pope from endorsing his choice of prefect.
