The former author of the Papabile blog has abandoned that very time-specific project in favor of this more permanent effort. In his breakdown analysis of the Pope's first address, I discovered that in fact it was not a homily at all. Benedict simply observed a period of silence after the Gospel. The address was delivered to the Cardinals present after the Mass had concluded. Romanitas suggests this is a foretaste of things to come, namely in the liturgical realm. Ratzinger recently published a text called, "The Spirit of Liturgy" in which he lays out his vision of the type of liturgical reform Vatican II was actually calling for. Expect more on this topic in the coming months. It is clearly portentious that Benedict XVI has been chosen to succeed JPII midway through the Year of the Eucharist.
