The Church celebrates her birth. As the priest said in his homily today, the Blood and Water that issued forth from the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the cross was the moment at which the Church was conceived. His dying breath called upon the Spirit: "Into your hands Lord I commend my Spirit"-- and the tongues of flame that came to rest signalled the birth of Christ, the tongue being an organ composed of Blood and Water.
It was very profound in spite of my bungling it here. And we had the image of Divine Mercy to gaze upon behind him as he spoke. And that needed no words for profundity.
"O Blood & Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a Fount of Mercy for us, I trust in YOU"~~~in this prayer we proclaim the gift of the Holy Spirit. May you be filled with bountiful graces this day and every day in the year to come!

"Reenacting the events recorded in Scripture must be more palatable than accepting the doctrine that Christ's sacrifice is eternal. " Must it be one or the other? Can't it be both?
