I was appalled when I walked into the local JoAnn Fabrics on the day of Halloween-- everything orange and black had already been replaced by green and red. Christmas had already come and October hadn't finished yet.
So I was very pleased to hear through the Facebook grapevine that Nordstrom's is taking a stand against pre-Thanksgiving holiday sales.
I was even more pleased to read this article from the OSV editor John Norton describing how Catholics can reclaim Thanksgiving as a holiday uniquely our own. We landed here well before the Puritans did, and we've been practicing eucharistia since the Last Supper.
UPDATE:
Danielle Bean here encourages us to retain Halloween as a necessary Catholic festival.
