The Third Epiphany

We are used to celebrating the 1st Epiphany, when Christ's glory was revealed in the manger. Some of us may have heard the Baptism in the River Jordan as the 2nd Epiphany, but how many know about the 3rd Epiphany?

It happened in Cana, and we'll hear about it this weekend. Christ sanctified the vocation of marriage, and his doing so with the miracle of the water turning into wine dovetails very neatly with the first reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah.

There we hear God refer to Himself as the bridegroom who treasures His bride. We know from St. Paul that the Church is the Bride of Christ. If indeed this is true, then Christ is awaiting us as a young bridegroom waits for his bride.

He waits for us on the altar, His throne, at the wedding supper of the Lamb.
