Hagan Lio

To be clear: I am not a proponent of the 1962 Missal or the TLM. It lacks music, which has been at the heart of worship for me my entire life. In fact, I am a great advocate of the 1965 Missal, which everyone steamrolled past without a second thought and which to me looks like a perfect compromise of both the EF and OF.

But this latest move on the part of Pope Francis suggests that, when he advocated in Rio for young people to 'Hagan Lio' he didn't fully comprehend that groups like Juventutem have been doing precisely that. He seems unaware that the way to shake things up at the chanceries run by liberal Boomers is to be a young conservative. His rejections of those who embrace tradition (or orthodoxy) as too rigid is a rejection of the next generation of the faithful, the very youth he told to 'hagan lio'  -- so, when they reject him, which is his big concern, he only hastened that by rejecting them first.

Cardinal Mueller captures my sentiment well: "Without the slightest empathy, one ignores the religious feelings of the (often young) participants in the Masses according to the Missal John XXIII. (1962) Instead of appreciating the smell of the sheep, the shepherd here hits them hard with his crook."
