Today we celebrate St. Joseph of Cupertino, the saint who, in his prayerful ecstasies, would levitate. I first encountered him in a chapter from Alban Goodier's book, Saints for Sinners, and am pleased to note that excerpts from this chapter have been made available online by EWTN.
Other saints have been recorded as levitating during prayer: Saint Teresa of Avila by one of her sisters, and St. Philip Neri would levitate while praying the Mass. Unlike them, St. Joseph suffered tremendously for this gift, being relegated to solitary confinement towards the end of his life. He bore it all humbly.
Like St. Joseph, may we be caught up in wonder at the radiance of God present at all times~
