Sobrino notification

"Although the preoccupation of the Author for the plight of the poor is admirable, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has the obligation to indicate that the aforementioned works of Father Sobrino contain notable discrepancies with the faith of the Church."

So, that's all it was. They have noted some discrepancies. Pretty draconian stuff.

I felt the same way when I heard him speak down in El Salvador for the 25th Anniversary of Romero's martyrdom. He certainly was verging on things that sounded sketchy, and, as a theologian, one shouldn't prefer to be on the verge. And if you decide to stay there in that fuzzy domain, anticipate that the CDF will be attentive to what you write and publish. Because you do, after all, have a responisbility not to lead astray the people who trust you.

Monsenor Romero didn't do that. Why should Jon Sobrino, S.J.?

John Allen has a cogent analysis.
