Holy Thursday

Tonight at Mass, the oils were presented, the feet of twelve parishioners were washed in each aisle, and the Blessed Sacrament was reposed in total silence. What I'd never seen done was the priests 'renewing their vows' kinda like married couples sometimes do on their anniversaries. The pastor in his homily made special mention of Holy Thursday as a feast to commemorate not only the Institution of the Eucharist but also the Institution of Holy Orders.

I just read about this recently, how the footwashing is really about being ordained. And that was pretty much the homily's message: "Do likewise: Serve. Love."

And as simple as it sounds, that's pretty much all the homily we need. Pray for priests, and remember that you too are called to be priestlike.

Yikes! I have a lot of catching up to do with your blog. You are a most verbose poster, indeed.

Thank you for your Holy Thursday homily. If those four words echoed through our heads every day at every hour, how differently would we lead our lives?

Also, it's so far down that I didn't know if you'd see a comment, but I loved that "German Shepherd" bumper sticker!
