Between the Lines

To better understand our Holy Father, get to know what his passions are. The retreat house hosting the pope until his triumphant entry into Sydney Harbour tuned their piano in anticipation of his visit, knowing that he relaxes with Mozart on the ivories. They also provided a little kitten to be his companion. That's true hospitality.

In return, Benedict is learning the culture of his host nation. He is very much wearing his heart on his sleeve. Yet, the Aussie press completely repudiates him---I won't pursue that tangent.

Instead, I submit Sandro Magister's article as a proof of how to meet this man: read between the lines. He is passionate about Augustine, to be sure; but he also, and more importantly, is very passionate about Jesus, the Eternal Word, encountered in the pages of Scripture. He's a bibliophile of the highest order, but he also strives to share that love with others.

So, then-- Read. Listen. Understand. It's not rocket science.

I just read a very powerful article in the Faith Magazine (Grand Rapids) and would like to share it with you:

"Roe v. Wade's 'Jane Roe' to appear in a pro-life commercial"

Norma McCorvey was the plaintiff "Jane Roe" in the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion nationwide. She is now an active Catholic and will appear in her first television commercial to express sorrow for her role in the case.

In the commercial, McCorvey states that, "back in 1973 I was a very confused 21-year-old with one child and facing an unplanned pregnancy. At the time I fought to obtain a legal abortion, but truth be told, I have three daughters and never had an abortion... Upon knowing God," she continues, "I realize that my case, which legalized abortion on demand, was the biggest mistake of my life.

"You read about me in history books, but now I am dedicated to spreading the truth about preserving the dignity of all human life from natural conception to natural death."

Since the Roe v. Wade ruling in 1973, documented abortions have killed more than 50 million unborn babies in the U.S.

The commercial is produced by Virtue Media, which describes itself as an organization "dedicated to producing and airing powerful and life-saving television, radio commercials and educational films." A broadcast has not yet been scheduled. However, it is available for viewing at Virtue Media's Web site, virtuemedia.org/norma.htm"

WOW. God's Grace and Mercy is abundant!
