Signs of the times

In my last post I said the following, "If we lose the Christ in our government, we lose true justice. We replace it with a morality that is not freedom, but another form of oppression."

This week's Catholic Carnival celebrates the Annunciation; one of the posts featured comes from Nod, who confirms my point when writing about Liberalism, Intolerance, and Despotism.

Pope Benedict, Cardinal Pell and Cardinal George independently have all connected the dots between secular liberalism and tyranny. Nod puts them on one page together so you can see and interpret for yourself.

Now is the time for prayer in this country. People are afraid. God will be with us if we call on Him and ask His blessing-- if we acknowledge His blessing and praise Him for it! This is the lesson of the Annunciation, when Mary incanted the Magnificat.

"He has mercy on those who fear Him in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent empty away."

Let us join Our Lady in calling on God's mercy.
